The Perio-Prosth Institute A Homage to the Legacy of our Teachers, Mentors, and Colleagues
Periodontal Prosthesis originated from the groundbreaking work of Drs. Morton Amsterdam and Walter Cohen, who developed an transdisciplinary treatment framework for the management of patients with severe dental and periodontal conditions. Their visionary approach eliminated the barriers between Periodontics, Orthodontics and Prosthodontics; establishing the foundation for what would become a unified system-based philosophy of treatment.
Innovations such as Forced Eruption, Biologically Oriented Tooth Preparations (BOPT) and Restorative Contour management continue to shape contemporary practice. Over the years, Esthetic Dentistry, Dental Implants, Digital Dentistry and Minimally Invasive Bone Grafting have expanded the discipline’s scope—an evolution propelled by generations of dedicated educators and alumni, whose contributions earned Perio-Prosth an international reputation and enduring influence.
The dissolution of the Perio-Prosth program risks the loss of 70 years of invaluable knowledge and a tradition of clinical excellence. The mission of the Perio-Prosth Institute is to advance the legacy of Drs. Cohen and Amsterdam; and the many teachers, mentors and colleagues who shaped generations of clinicians.
Through a series of innovative continuing education programs, we will offer a contemporary interpretation of the Perio-Prosth philosophy, tailored for today’s practicing professionals.
